![]() ![]() They haven't spoken to this community in a clear direct way in months and months now. They are working on new stuff and washed their hands of the messy launch. Not all the way dead, but its certainly on a down turn that the devs dont seem at all interested in fixing. This would mean conventionally (as in the way most people intend to use the word and not in the stubborn literal use of the word) yeah the game is fairly dead for the average gamers standards these days. The few people still playing daily are pretty skilled so good luck if you're new to the genre and wanting to learn casually. That kind of thing is stuck in the realm of game mode oriented discords which is pretty inefficient. You can only spin up temporary custom lobbies instead of hosting a 24/7 server to build a community. The automated queue outside of duel is pretty hit or miss. What does the game look like when you put the kool aid down? Well, yes you can play, but only at select hours of the day, in select regions of the world and only in select game modes. I've seen people on the discord try to argue that its 'fine' you cant find a game in the early afternoon on a weekend in EU at this point. That's an accurate statement, but it's one that has zero nuance to it at all, and is mostly used as a defense mechanism. So in that extremely literal sense no it is not dead. Some will argue till they're blue in the face that it isnt dead simply because the servers are still up and you can log in and play. We need either a triple A funded arena game or massive crowdfund over several million dollars to get an arena fps with plenty of features. They are massively underfunded and just can't seem to bring out anything half decent that lasts for more than a few months. Quake has dozens of clones and successors and it's really showing that the mass majority of gamers don't want to stick around for Quake style FPS.ĪLSO, indie FPS probably aren't going to cut it. The next big AFPS game needs to either be a decently funded Unreal Tournament successor or something that differs from Quake. It may have not been a huge financial success or anything, but critics gave it good reviews and the pros are still playing every day. People may also disagree with me here but I believe Quake Champs was a step in the right direction for the evolution of arena fps. Why would I want to open DBT when QL has a couple of hundred active players in NA during peak hours? Whenever I open Diabotical I only see 1 or 2 wipeout games at most during peak hours. As a matter of fact, I play QL across several game types almost every day here in NA. I don't know how that is going to sell the game or bring already established communities over from QL. This game is just Quake Live with another coat of paint and some gimmicks. It doesn't do anything to reflect upon the Arena FPS genre other than being another Quake Clone with a few gimmicks like adding dodge and a shock rifle, and some quality of life features that Quake Live might have needed years ago. A lot of people may agree with me, a lot of folks here might down vote me, but I don't care, it needs to be said.ĭiabotical is a truly uninspiring game.
